Is there an audible difference between 16 gauge and 10 gauge speaker wire?

I have high quality Klipsch speakers and want them to sound as good as possible. I have a Pioneer amp model VSX 518 which is a lower-mid range one in price. I couldn't afford to put a lot on the receiver.

  1. no you would have to a dog to appreciate the diff.

go to a good store and they will let you hear for yourself

  2. None at all with that receiver.

  3. The difference between the wire gauges is not based on sonics/fidelity, but rather the power/current that can be handled across the wire. Most hi-power AV receivers (80W and up) should be wired with 16 gauge wiring, when matched to 8 ohm speakers. 14 or lower gauge wire is recommended when wiring speakers at a distance from the amplifier (50' or more)

VSX518 is rated at 120W per ch ( more likely it averages 80-90W continuous ) with a 8 ohm load. Refer to the owner's manual, which most likely recommends using 16 gauge speaker wire.

  4. idk baby

  5. No speaker wires matter very little just don't get monster! they make cheap cables and suit people for using the name monster for anything.

Speakers always come before anything else in a system so you did well!

  6. It depends on the distance you're running them. There's a lot of flim-flam, pseudo-science and outright scamming in the speaker cable industry. Here's a good tutorial that should cover all the basics:
