Pros and cons of reading books versus listening to audiobooks?

When reading a novel in class, our teacher plays the audiobook, while we're following along in the real book. It's fairly helpful. I've never listened to an audiobook outside of class, and therefore haven't listened to one without a book there. What do you think? With which is it easier to follow along? For which genre are audiobooks best? Are they better for long description, dialogue, or stream of consciousness? Are audiobooks hard to find/expensive?

  1. I prefer just reading books because I like to form my own pictures in my head. The voice or inflection of the readers voice biases the book, in my opinion.

Audio books are great for people to listen to while driving, and are great for blind and vision impaired people.

They are easy to find in the library or online.

  2. I DEFINITELY remember more when I read a book, because I'm a visual learner. But, if the book is for pleasure or has a scattering of foreign words then I prefer the audio book, so I can cook or clean while listening and learn how the words are pronounced.

I check out audio books from the library. Some are better than others depending upon the reader, popularity of the book, and audio book publisher. The best one I listened to was Inkheart. The reader was amazing. Every voice she did was distinct. Wow!

  3. It really depends on what kind of "learner" you are. I am a visual learner, which means I have to actually see what I am supposed to focus on. When I listen to audio-books (or even a lecturer for that matter) I tend to wander mentally. If I can read and see the words, I can visualize and maintain focus much better. Some people are "auditory" learners who need to hear information in order to retain and understand it.

  4. personally i like the idea of audiobooks for listening because you get the complete idea of what the book is perpetuating to you and you also experience the words that you have to make sense of, and meanwhile you can do something while listening to them.

now dont get me wrong regular books are great, they are awesome because you can sit down relax and read and just get lost in a book and feel what is going on, great for if you want to concentrate!

i think they both have their pros and cons so try some out and see what you like more.

audiobooks are not hard to find they you can get them on itunes for cheap or going to the book the price ranges.

like 9.99 to at most 30.00 for a larger book.
